It’s been a crazy few months for me and my family. If you’ve been with me since Christmas, you know the story of my daughter Kaylen. You also know that I *thought* she was diagnosed and all would be well. It didn’t turn out that way.
It turns out that she doesn’t have spherocytosis. In 4 months, they *still* don’t know what it is! She’s had to have another transfusion since the first one and we’ve been going to the hematologist every 2 weeks to check her counts. All of her counts look great (including iron levels) except for her red blood cells. She obviously has anemia, but they still don’t know what’s causing it. We go back to the hematologist tomorrow and we’re very much hoping her counts are increasing.
Anyhow, needless to say I haven’t been online much. Due to that fact, you haven’t heard from me much and I apologize for that. I am trying my best to get back into the swing of things so expect to hear more from me starting today.

First off, I want to apologize for my lack of contact. I am back home now and working as much as I can to get caught up. I hope you will understand that family is my first priority and will require much of my time right now. I WILL be doing everything I can to get a good balance…
My 22 month old daughter, Kaylen was in the pediatric ICU on Christmas night and we just got released and home on Friday. It was scary and heartbreaking and will now be a Christmas we will never forget.
To make a long story short, Kaylen had severe acute anemia. Her blood levels were at 7 (30 is normal). The doctor prepared us by saying that he hadn’t seen many people make it with blood levels that low. Everyone’s first thought was leukemia. We found out by the 3rd day that it wasn’t, thank goodness. Her bone marrow was working fine and actually working overtime trying to keep up. She got 5 blood transfusions and it was finally determined to be a virus that somehow depleted her blood levels. We may never know what it was… but we are praising God that it didn’t turn out to be fatal or a lifetime disease.
Because her blood levels were so low, getting an IV to take and getting blood for tests were very difficult. The stress was overwhelming and watching my 22 month old daughter get poked and prodded every hour for 5 days was almost enough to put me in my grave. I’m glad it’s over.
There will be a few more tests within the next few months and if all is normal, we will be in the clear.
Unfortunately 5 days in ICU, all the blood tests, MRI, MRA, 2 CT scans, etc. are going to be outrageous! I will have to start new things and get things moving with this business in order to support my family.
I would NEVER ask for anyone’s donations for nothing in return. I will try to put a package together as soon as I can and it will all go to Kaylen’s fund. If you have any ideas or would like to help me in any way, please contact me. Any and all help would be much appreciated!
