There was so much involvement with the poll (you guys are so helpful -- thank you), that I have decided to make it a weekly column. I think it would be a lot of fun to see how everyone else thinks and feels about certain issues.

Want To Expand Your Business? Try Walking Barefoot in the Grass!

I hear it all the time. “I want to expand my business, but I don’t know how.” Many online small business owners have this challenge. In all actuality, it’s not a business problem… rather a creativity problem.

For any given industry, there are dozens of ways to expand, reach new customers, develop new products, and offer more services. However, the struggle comes with trying to think of new ideas. “Where do I expand to?” “How do I reach new customers?” “What products or services should I add?” These are all questions that can seem overwhelming to someone stuck sitting in front of a computer all day.

One way to open your mind to new possibilities is to get creative. When your creative juices start flowing, all sorts of ideas pop into your mind. Some may seem silly or inconceivable, but others will cause you to have “light bulb moments” where you’re amazed that you didn’t think of the idea before.

To break the monotony and open the floodgate of creativity, try doing some of the following. They are all “kid-like” activities designed to eliminate the humdrum business thinking you’ve become accustomed to and free your mind to unlimited possibilities.

1. Walk barefoot in the grass.
When was the last time you took your shoes off and strolled around your yard? While you’re walking, notice the birds in the trees, the crickets beneath your feet, and the shapes of the clouds overhead. Take time to just relax and dream again.

2. Buy a set of building blocks.
Or you can borrow some from your children! Use your imagination to construct anything you want. Be unique… think like a kid and create a true masterpiece.

3. Forget about being wrong.
Kids never care if they’re wrong. If you tell them they can’t do something, they simply say, “Oh yes I can!” Rather than looking at new business ideas from a “it’ll probably fail” point-of-view, take the “oh yes I can” stance.

4. Rearrange your office or workspace.
Sometimes just the slightest change in your routine can spark creativity. Change the placement of your desk, add some plants, hang an overhead light, or alter some other aspect of your workspace.

When you take the time to nurture your creativity, it will pay off in ways you never imagined. And isn’t that the point? Learn to imagine the unimaginable and make your business soar!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of a lengthy visit with George McKenzie, owner of http://www.get-free-publicity.com. A lot of people give PR advice, but few know the real deal like George. Before going online he spent many years working in television news.

George says a press release works best when the headline makes people in the media newsroom say "Hey, what's that!"

George is exactly right. I saw that situation happen many times during the years I worked in radio and TV. A press release or new story would arrive with a particularly exciting or juicy headline and word quickly spread around the newsroom.

Invariably, that story would get not only coverage, but enthusiastic coverage. The article runs on the front page of a section, the anchor person gives the lead-in a bit more effort, the radio morning show team talks about you two or three times in one hour. That's the kind of free publicity that gives your sales a giant shot in the arm.

Get the "Hey, what's that!" response by giving media a story THEY feel will REALLY interest the audience. Connect your information with a super hot national headline. Connect your story with a celebrity, high-profile local issue, or scandal. Stories that are especially helpful, weird, funny, scary, or sexy get special treatment.

How To Make Money Helping A Much Neglected Market

We live in an instant gratification, throw away society.

This attitude has caused the seniors and disabled to be neglected and virtually ignored.

I'm not 65 yet, but I have been disabled for the last few years and I know that it would be extremely hard for me to survive if it wasn't for the Internet.

It's amazing that during election campaigns all the political parties talk about what they're going to do for our graying population, but the reality is far different.

There was a news story the other night about an area where doctors were turning away one in five senior citizens.

Our gracious government, in their quest to help our seniors, has made it virtually impossible for them to save money on their prescriptions by going to Canada.

In the Philadelphia area where I live, property taxes keep rising, causing many seniors to lose homes they've lived in their whole lives.

Even sadder are the figures from the Social Security Board which states that less than 2% of our older population are self - sufficient.

So what can you and I do?

We can show our older citizens and the disabled that there is a better way.

Forget the scams and get rich schemes, make your daily bread by helping others.

This growing segment of our population has been prey to every scam artist and snake oil salesman. Let's turn that around.

Make it your mission to help those who need it the most. You can make their lives a little better and help them make their golden years golden.

Wouldn't you feel better knowing you've helped someone keep their home?

Imagine how good you'd feel knowing you've helped someone afford quality health care.

Our seniors and the disabled need help, maybe it's time you helped them.

3 Buying Incentives That Sell!

1) Return On Investment

Allow people to make money reselling the product or service. Tell people they can join your affiliate program if they order. You could pay them per sale, per click, per referral, etc. Just provide them with proven and tested marketing materials, detailed statistics and plenty of affiliate training.

2) Full-Time Help

Offer free 24-hour help with all products you sell. Allow customers to ask you questions by e-mail, by toll free phone, by free fax, etc. If for some reason you can't offer this service, answer their questions and concerns as soon as possible. You could also let them know you received their message and you'll get back to them as soon as possible.

3) No Extra Charges

Provide free shipping with all orders. If you can't afford it, you could offer free shipping on orders over a specific dollar amount. You could also offer a rebate on their shipping costs. Most customers most probably won't send in the rebate card unless it's a huge shipping cost, for example, $30 or more.
