A Word From Diane

Hey!

Good Day to you and I hope your day is going well so far! :)
Welcome to all our new subscribers this week and I hope you grow
to love us as so many have ... we couldn't do this without you!

Happy Halloween to you! :)

So how do you like the new HTML version of the ezine? I have decided to test it out and see how it goes. It's not highly graphic or intense, so I think it should work for most of you. Of course, I am still sending the short announcement of the online issue in case the HTML version gets filtered.

Thank all of you who sent me your "get well wishes" ... I'm doing much better, but I still don't have a whole lot of energy. I'm managing to get things caught up and moving along, though ... :)

Until I can start generating some real interest in the forum, I'm suspending the weekly discussion post. I realize there are a lot of forums out there and many of you belong to quite a few. It can be daunting to add another forum to your daily visits. I'm still going to leave it there because there are those of you who DO enjoy it and use it. And I will still visit everyday to answer any posts and stay involved. I'm just not going to make it a big priority or try to make it into something it's not. The weekly issue is what most of you are here for and what I will concentrate on. :)

There's a special little message I will be sending later today in order to keep up with the "compliance" issues with the new email laws. I'm not going to go as far as to unsubscribe everyone and start over (like SOME publishers are doing) ... that's a bit too scary and too drastic, I think at this point. Just look for it -- I'll make sure you don't miss it. :)

In the meantime ... sit back, relax and enjoy today's issue!

Your Friend,

Diane Hughes

What You Need To Know About Incorporating Your Business
by Diane Hughes

Most US-based small businesses are getting eaten alive in taxes! That statement has proven itself true over and over again. However, while small business owners want to save money, many are literally afraid of incorporating their companies. The paperwork, the additional reports, having a set payroll amount each month, and other visions swirl around their heads. Those visions could be costing you a ton!

Let me take a few minutes to explain what you need to know about incorporating your business. While it certainly isn't a move every business will want to make, there are definitely some large benefits associated with incorporation.

MYTH
Incorporating means I can't take money whenever I want it.

TRUTH
Yes you can! This is a MYTH that holds a lot of small business owners back from incorporating. If you set a payroll amount for yourself, then decide you want/need more money, you simply write yourself another c.heck and call it an "owner distribution" or a "draw."

MYTH
There's too much paperwork involved once you incorporate. I don't have the time.

TRUTH
There are some additional forms you have to complete. There are some additional taxes you have to pay. HOWEVER... read this carefully... for the three or four extra forms and the cost of the additional taxes, most businesses will still save when compared to counting every dollar you make toward personal income.

MYTH
The only good reason to incorporate is for personal protection. The difference in taxes isn't that much.

TRUTH
While incorporating your business will help protect you from lawsuits and from having your personal property seized, there are more benefits than that. The tax savings can be quite significant.

MYTH
With the attorney's fees, the CPA's fees, the additional income tax returns, and the forms I have to file quarterly, it's just not worth it. I won't really save any money.

TRUTH
Every case is different; however, most small businesses will more than make up the $1500 - $2000 it costs to incorporate within the first six months to one year. Also, most small businesses will save about 50% on taxes after they incorporate. (A qualified CPA will be able to look at your books and give you a more accurate figure.)

MYTH
I'll have to hold meetings and keep lots of records that I don't have time to keep.

TRUTH
Not if you register as a "closed" S-Corporation. This means you have waved the requirement to hold all those meetings and keep all those records.

How Do You Get Specific Details?

Contact a qualified CPA in your local area. He or she can give you detailed information on how much it will cost to set everything up, and - most importantly - how much you will save in taxes.

Incorporation is not something to be afraid of. In fact, if you're one of the many who will save 50% off your taxes in the next year, it's something to go after with a vengeance!

Marketing Myths About Women

We have long known that women determine how up to 80 percent of a family's income is spent. That means trillions of dollars in sales for companies each year.

Here are 3 myths about women that you should consider when marketing your business:

1) Women won't buy based on relationship alone. Not true. Women frequently choose products or services because the company favors the environment, contributes to community programs, or deals fairly with disadvantaged nations or groups.

2) Women like to shop. Not necessarily. Studies show more than half of women say shopping is a chore they would rather skip. Don't expect to increase sales by making the shopping experience longer or more involved.

3) Women don't start businesses. That myth becomes more wrong each year. Woman now start new companies twice as often as men. Companies owned by women employ more people than the 500 biggest corporations in America.

Due Diligence
by Bob Osgoodby

Most of us think of hype as exaggerated or extravagant claims, made especially in advertising or promotional material. Sometimes it is deceptive and deliberately misleading. While we have become a bit immune to this through constant exposure, it always seems that someone comes up with a fresh approach that is not immediately recognized.

Con artists have been around since the beginning of time, and are always willing to take advantage of another "hot prospect". But every scam has "red flags" and a little common sense should prevail so you do not fall prey to them. Let's examine a few we get by email everyday.

"Complimentary Vacation Package" - this one has been around a long time, but has now found its way to the web. It starts off with "Congratulations! You will be our guest in Orlando, Florida, home of Walt Disney World, for 4 days and 3 nights. All compliments of major Vacation Resort Developers." Reading it, you might feel you have won a contest. In actuality, this is not the case. It is a high pressure sales campaign designed to sell you a "timeshare" vacation package.

Another variation promises deeply discounted vacation packages. You pay for a package that seems great on the surface, but in reality is either third rate accommodations or doesn't exist at all.

"Guaranteed Winner" - they state - "You're going to get one of these top five prizes, guaranteed!" In this scam you normally send some information, and either return it by email or fill out a form on a web site. They require that you supply your telephone number to be eligible. You will then be contacted by a telemarketer who confirms that you have been chosen for one of the five "valuable" prizes; however, you must pay a processing fee for handling, customs duties or taxes, and you must send a check or money order to them by overnight mail. The prize usually winds up being small trinkets of minimal value, discount coupons or vouchers, worth far less than what you paid.

Or, you might receive an e-mail informing you that your order has been received and processed, and your credit card will be billed for the charges. The trouble is, you haven't ordered anything. They contacted you using bulk email, using inactive return addresses which prevent you from refuting the orders by email. They do provide a telephone number in the area code 767, which is actually in the West Indies. They try to keep callers on the line as long as possible, and you are reportedly billed as much as $25 per minute. Be aware that your local telephone company may bill for services provided by other companies, and not be able to provide you relief.

Another current scam floating about the web offers you a cut of stolen money from Nigeria that was stolen and they need your help getting the m.oney out of the country. They of course want a cut of the money that they claim will be wired to your personal bank account. You of course are expected to pay them their share up front. The money however never arrives in your bank.

One group sends hundreds of thousands of unsolicited emails to people directing them to web sites promoting the Mega$Nets and MegaResource programs. When you visit one of their web sites you can download copies of the software program which contains a list of five names and addresses. The software program and web sites direct you to send twenty dollars to each of five people listed in the software in order for you to get yourself placed at the top of the list of names. This is simply a variation of the old fashioned chain letter. Actually, there are a lot of chain letters floating about the web and all should be avoided.

Another email promises guaranteed Credit Card approval! One group offered Visa cards to the credit-challenged "to put you back in the mainstream of financial life in high style" at an interest rate of only 4.9%. How? Through the magic of using offshore banks in tax haven countries. There is however a $100 processing fee and $25 per month charge regardless of use.

Some people really believe that they have been selected to be in the Internet Version of "Who's Who". This one started years ago and was sent to every company executive in the country - They will include your listing at no charge - oh, would you like a copy? "Send $98 to us and it will be delivered to your doorstep.

There is no way to adequately cover all the scams that permeate the web. Before jumping into any of these "make a million while you sleep" plans, use a little "due diligence" and check them out. The money you save will be your own.

Instant plug-in scripts that help you profit...
"Page printing for offline reading"
by Michel Komarov

When it comes to reading something online, you can't beat printing it out and reading it in your own time whilst drinking a nice cup of cofee long after you've left your computer.

This script will help you to make it easier for your potential customers to do just the same (coffee is optional ;-)

This is particularly true if your website uses frames as these types of pages are notoriously difficult to print out.

How does a "print this page" link help you?

What a link like this will do on your sales page is encourage the consumption of your web page. The easier it is for people to consume or read your webpage the more s.ales you'll make, it's as simple as that.

Place the HTML code into the source code of your web page anywhere between the <body> and </body> tags. The position you choose is where the "Print This Page" text will appear:

<!-- Script created by http://icoder.com
Subscribe to freescripts@icoder.com for this
and many other essential web site scripts. -->
<a href="#" onclick="window.print();">
Print This Page
</a>

You can use other text instead of "Print This Page".
Or place an image here (<img src="url_to_your_image">).

That's all there is to it, if you follow this link you can see how it should look when you've installed it on your web page.

For a more detailed explanation on what JavaScripts are and how to install them please send a blank email here: mailto:jshelp@icoder.com

If you need any help or advice in installing this or any of my other plug-in scripts, just let me know and I'll do my best to help ;-)

Leaving With a Laugh

Answering the phone, the priest was surprised to hear the caller introduce herself as an IRS auditor.

"But we do not pay taxes," the priest said. "It isn't you, Father, it's one of your parishioners, Sean McCullough. He indicates on his tax return that he gave a donation of $15,000 to the church last year. Is this, in fact, the truth?"

The priest smiled broadly. "The c.heck hasn't arrived yet, but I'm sure I'll have it when I remind dear Sean."
